Whether you have a small bedroom with a single mattress bed or a large bedroom with a king size bed, storage is essential to maximise your available space. Bedrooms can often be cluttered and disorganised rooms full of your things. We fill our bedrooms with clothes, shoes, bags, makeup and accessories, usually in no order but instead thrown into cupboards and corners. Bringing calm and organisation to your bedroom space can help you get a better night’s sleep and ensure when the alarm goes off, you know where to find everything.
Before you start organising your clutter, look at your belongings and have a good sort out of what you actually use and need. Try to be ruthless and take good quality unwanted items to local charity shops or recycle them. Do you really need to keep clothes that no longer fit or shoes that you would never wear again?

There are several ways to improve storage within your bedroom and organise your belongings. Firstly, your bed can often be a good storage solution as well as giving you a good night’s rest. Most divan beds from a single mattress to king size are available with storage drawers underneath. These are particularly useful for bedding but can be used to store anything from holiday clothes to shoes.
If you have a framed bed, you can still utilise the space underneath. You can buy specific under the bed storage boxes to suit all sized beds from single mattress to super king. Some even come with wheels so that you can slide them easily from underneath.
Look out for bedside tables with drawers to stop them cluttering up with items that you often reach for when in bed. Drawers provide a great storage space for smaller items such as tissues, the latest must read and medication.
Next, look at your walls as these often have potential for storage that won’t compromise your floor space. If you only have an area for a single mattress bed, using the wall area for shelving is ideal to maximise the room. Smaller shelving is great for displaying makeup, perfumes or aftershave and frees up room on dressing tables and drawers units. Larger shelving and utilising space above doorways is a good way of storing books and collectibles.
Building a shelf around the top of the room, just down from the ceiling, will also provide plenty of storage. Using display boxes here means you can store items you don’t need every day and it looks great too. This is ideal in children’s bedrooms when their single mattress bed is brimming with soft toys, as they can all be displayed around the room on the shelving.

Another great idea for wall storage is display hooks for jewellery such as necklaces and bracelets or for scarves and hats. These come in a range of designs from stylish French boudoir to girly chic depending on the style of the bedroom.
Storage does not have to be costly and even cardboard shoeboxes covered in pretty wrapping paper will work. Implement just a few small changes and you will notice the difference in your bedroom space.
